If you’re unhappy with the look of your teeth due to staining, discoloration, chips, or cracks, but don’t want to undergo a dental crown procedure, veneers might be just be the answer.
As a leader in cosmetic dentistry, David M. Skopp, DDS and his professional team in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida are ready to help bring your smile back to its full potential.
Veneers are incredibly thin pieces of porcelain or composite resin material that are bonded directly to the front of the tooth to cover up any discoloration or damage. Although dental veneers are mostly used for cosmetic reasons.
Veneers are an excellent alternative to crowns for a number of reasons, including:
In most cases, veneers usually require two or three separate appointments, depending on the type of material used. During your initial consultation, you will have the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Skopp to determine if veneers are your best option. He will then discuss your goals with you and come up with a comprehensive plan, detailing the procedure method to be used as well as the type of material.
Porcelain is usually the most common type of material, but these veneers will require an additional appointment. First, Dr. Skopp will need to make a mold of your teeth and send the mold off to a dental laboratory so the porcelain veneers can be made.
On the other hand, if you’re using composite resin veneers, these can be done in one appointment, as this material is sculpted directly onto the teeth. In most cases, porcelain veneers will achieve a more natural look, however, they can be more costly.
When it’s time to put the veneers in place, Dr. Skopp will first lightly buff down the teeth, removing somewhere around a half of millimeter of decayed material to allow the veneer to fit smoothly. In some cases, a local anesthetic may be necessary during this process, depending on how sensitive your teeth are and how much tooth material needs to be removed.
If using porcelain veneers, the dentist will then rest them on your teeth so that you can check the coloring. If you are dissatisfied with the results, say something. The coloring can only be changed up until the point that the veneers are cemented in place.
Once everything is ready, the teeth will then be cleansed with special chemicals. From there, the dentist will sculpt the new front with the composite resin, apply a special cement to the teeth, and glue the porcelain veneers directly onto the existing teeth.
Finally, it’s important to come in for a quick follow-up appointment in a week or two. By then your new teeth will be ready and you can continue caring for them just as if they were natural teeth.
The overall look and feel of your veneers will depend in large part upon the skill of the dentist. So don’t take any risks with your teeth, and instead call 561--5000 today at our Palm Beach Gardens office to schedule an appointment to let Dr. Skopp give you the smile of your dreams.
